“Under Enquiry” is interpreted from the scheme's official enquiry/verification workflow and current reporting. The exact reason for your own case can only come from the official tracker or the responsible government office.
Quick answer: is Under Enquiry bad?
Under Enquiry does not mean your Annapurna Yojana application has been finally rejected. It means the case still needs enquiry, verification or a decision before the process is complete.
The official notification explicitly says Annapurna Yojana applications are to be duly enquired into by authorised government officials. After verification, BDOs in rural areas and SDOs in urban areas recommend eligible applicants to the District Magistrate; KMC officers handle the process inside KMC areas.
Official verification flow
- 1Application receivedThe application enters the government's Annapurna Yojana processing system.
- 2Enquiry / verificationAuthorised officials verify the application and supporting records.
- 3RecommendationBDOs in rural areas, SDOs in urban areas or KMC officers recommend eligible cases through the official system.
- 4SanctionDistrict Magistrates act as sanctioning authorities in districts; the KMC Commissioner is the sanctioning authority in KMC areas.
- 5DBT stageFor sanctioned eligible beneficiaries, the scheme provides ₹3,000 through DBT to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Why can an application stay Under Enquiry?
The portal does not publish one universal reason for every pending case. An application can require additional checking before the sanctioning authority reaches a final decision. The important point is that Under Enquiry is a process state, not a guarantee of approval and not the same as a final rejection.
July reporting also documented a large re-verification exercise involving rejected and under-enquiry applications, which is another reason status could remain unsettled while officials reviewed records.
What you should do
- Check the latest result through the official Track Applicant Status route.
- Keep the application acknowledgement/reference safe.
- Keep the mandatory Aadhaar, EPIC/Voter ID and registered mobile information available for authorised verification.
- If an official enquiry has already happened but the status remains unchanged for a long period, contact the BDO, SDO or KMC/municipal office responsible for your area.
- Do not pay agents and do not submit a duplicate application unless the government office specifically instructs you to correct or reapply.
Under Enquiry vs Rejected vs Approved
| Status | Meaning | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Under Enquiry / Under Verification | Decision still pending | Wait for verification; follow up if unusually delayed |
| Rejected / Ineligible | Negative decision shown | Check reason and follow the rejected application guide |
| Approved / Sanctioned | Eligibility/sanction stage cleared | Check bank credit separately; use payment not received if needed |
If your status changed from Rejected to Under Enquiry
That can indicate the case is being looked at again rather than remaining at a final negative result. Secondary news reports during July described rejected cases being reviewed and some applicants seeing Under Enquiry while re-verification was under way.
Do not assume that this guarantees approval. Continue to use the official tracker and wait for the final status or case-specific instruction.
